Price, Shipping Costs Motivate International Buyers, PayPal Study Finds

shipping handler

Good news for online merchants selling products and services to customers in international markets. According to a new PayPal Cross-Border Consumer Research 2015 report (PDF), cross-border sales are on the rise, and the U.S. is the most preferred destination for online shopping.

The findings reveal a number of interesting consumer insights.

Key Takeaways

The research investigated the online and cross-border shopping habits of more than 23,200 consumers in 29 countries to understand how and why people shop online, and how they pay for cross-border transactions.

Some of the key findings of the PayPal Cross-Border Consumer Research report are:

  • The greatest prevalence of cross-border shopping is in Ireland (79 percent), Austria (78 percent) and Israel (71 percent)
  • The majority of cross-border purchases are made on a computer, although mobile devices are more popular in the developing countries
  • Clothing and apparel (49 percent) is the most popular category for cross-border purchases, followed by consumer electronics (32 percent), entertainment and education (31 percent), and travel (31 percent)
  • The majority of consumers (64 percent) prefer large global stores when purchasing from another country

Price and Shipping Costs Drive Purchases

A key finding was consumer attitudes towards price and shipping costs. About 73 percent of surveyed respondents cite better pricing as a key reason to make an international purchase. It’s also interesting to note that 50 percent of respondents say free shipping is a potential motivation for cross-border shopping. In fact, 47 percent of them say delivery costs prevent them from making international purchases regularly.

In other words, being sensitive to product and shipping costs can boost your chances of attracting customers in the international markets.

Why You Need to Focus on Mobile and SEO

Mobile commerce is a key driver of global online shopping, the study says. The assertion is based on the numbers that clearly prove mobile matters more than ever. For example, 47 percent of online shoppers used their smartphones to make a purchase last year.

It has also found that Nigerians who conduct nearly 37.8 percent of their online spend using smartphones lead in mobile shopping. They are followed by China (33.6 percent).

The trend suggests growing demand for online shopping apps that save time and make transactions safer and simpler.

But it’s not just mobile commerce that is driving cross-border purchases. Fifty-eight percent of cross-border shoppers said they go directly to the website they have used in the past to make purchases. 40 percent go to websites they know the address for, while 36 percent visit sites recommended by friends and family.

It goes without saying that SEO plays a key role in drawing consumers to international shopping.

Cross-border selling is tricky, but if done right, it’s also extremely rewarding. You just need to have the strategy and means to make the most of it.

Nintendo Switch Price Listed by UK Retailer

Nintendo Switch Price Listed by UK RetailerNintendo Switch Price Listed by UK Retailer
Earlier in the month, we reported that the Nintendo Switch would be priced from $249 (around Rs. 17,000) onwards. It appears that this will be the case. UK-based retailer Gameseek has the console listed for £198.50. This puts it in line with the anticipated pricing outed by LetsPlayVideoGames’ Laura Kate Dale.

(Also see: Nintendo Switch Launch Games to Include Mario, Splatoon, and Skyrim: Report )

“UK specialist gaming retail chain GAME has been informed of the Nintendo Switch’s wholesale price to retailers, and is planning on selling their basic SKU (stock keeping unit) of the system in stores for £199.99,” a post on LetsPlayVideoGames read at the time. “We have also learned that a separate SKU featuring more internal storage and a packed in game is planned to sell at £249.99.” This will, if Nintendo’s plans bear fruition, result in a dollar pricing of $249.99 (approximately Rs. 17,000) and $299.99 (around Rs. 20,250) respectively.

gameseek switch price uk nintendo_switch
(Also see: Nintendo Switch Price to Be $250 and $300: Report)
“Lastly, we have been told that Nintendo is planning for the Switch to be close to direct conversion price comparable across regions, which we have been told is tied into their push for the system to be region free. This would in theory put the USA price of the system at approximately $249.99 and $299.99 (This is based off conversions, not any insider information).”

In the past, Gameseek was one of the first retailers to state that Nintendo was taking final orders on the Wii U, a couple of months before the Kyoto-based company formally announced the same. Nonetheless, we should see an official announcement from Nintendo on January 12 along with a host of games, some of which, have already been revealed. Albeit not in a fashion its developers may approve of.

ZTE Nubia Z11 mini S With 23-Megapixel Camera Launched: Price, Specifications, and More
HIGHLIGHTS

The smartphone has 23-megapixel rear camera and 13-megapixel front camera
It comes with 64GB & 128GB storage options, supports 200GB microSD cards
ZTE sub-brand Nubia, celebrating its fourth anniversary on Monday, has unveiled the Nubia Z11 mini S smartphone in its home market. The smartphone’s biggest highlight is the 23-megapixel rear camera with phase-detection autofocus that can focus on an object in 0.1 seconds. It is the fourth model in the company’s Z11 series, following the Nubia Z11, Z11 Max, and Z11 mini.

Available in gold with black, gold, and silver options, ZTE Nubia Z11 mini S is currently up for pre-orders on the company’s official website in China at CNY 1,499 (approximately Rs. 14,867) for the 64GB variant and CNY 1,899 (roughly Rs. 18,834) for the 128GB model. The device will go on sale on October 25.

ZTE Nubia Z11 mini S sports a 5.2-inch full-HD screen with 2.5D curved glass display design, Gorilla Glass protection, 450 nits brightness, and 85 percent NTSC colour gamut. Featuring an aircraft-grade aluminium body with unibody design and curved antenna on top, the smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with nubia UI 4.0 on top. There is no word regarding when – and if – the ZTE Nubia Z11 mini S will get the Android Nougat update.

Under the hood is the 2.0GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor with 4GB RAM. Apart from the in-built 64GB and 128GB storage options, the new Nubia Z11 mini S supports microSD cards of capacities up to 200GB. However, the microSD card takes up one of the two SIM card slots, since it features the hybrid SIM setup.
The 23-megapixel rear camera of Nubia Z11 mini S has phase-detection auto-focus, f/2.0 aperture for better lowlight imaging, and Sapphire lens. The front camera, on the other hand, has a 13-megapixel Sony IMX25 sensor with phase-detection auto-focus, f/2.2 aperture, and 5P lens.

On the connectivity front, the ZTE Nubia Z11 mini S supports 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, and USB Type C; it also has a fingerprint sensor on the back as well as NeoSafe 2.0 technology to make NFC-based payments secure. Nubia Z11 mini S comes supports the FiT 2.0 technology as well, which allows to activate certain preset functions when the user swipes on the left or right edge of the screen. The 3000mAh non-removable battery comes with NeoPower 2.0 power management functionality.

Nintendo NX Price, Features, and Specs Leaked?

Nintendo NX Price, Features, and Specs Leaked?Nintendo NX Price, Features, and Specs Leaked?
HIGHLIGHTS
The Nintendo NX may cost you $299.99 upwards
It could launch with four games
It may have 4K streaming along with gaming at 1080p and 60fps
A week doesn’t seem to go by without another rumour for Nintendo’s yet to be announced NX console. Earlier we saw Ubisoft talk up the console and that the next Beyond Good and Evil game may be exclusive to it. Now it appears that information related to the NX’s price, features, and specifications have been leaked.

This week’s news around the NX comes via the NX subreddit. According to sources vetted by its moderators, here’s what you can expect.

(Also see: Nintendo NX Production Trials Underway: Sources)

For one, the games will be on cartridges. No surprise considering several sources have already confirmed this. 4K streaming for Netflix along with 1080p and 60fps for gaming have been talked about.

“4k streaming has been mentioned. – What this likely means is playback of content such as Netflix, etc. Not gameplay,” the post reads. “1080p and 60fps are being used by the marketing teams in relation to gameplay on to the console portion. I’ve heard unconfirmed rumblings of 900p for the infamous hybrid part of the device.”
Furthermore, the post claims that price points of $299.99 (around Rs. 20,000) and $399.99 (roughly Rs. 27,000) will be present. The base price being the former and a bundle price being the latter. What comes in the bundle is at this point of time unknown.

(Also see: Nintendo to End Wii U Production. Possible Nintendo NX Release Date Soon?)

It seems that the console will launch with four games, and a strong co-branding effort with a Mario launch title. Further alluding to the possibility of it being a handheld console (as if we didn’t need yet another confirmation) is the phrase “Interact with your game on the go” being seen on marketing materials.

Although some of this would be in line with what’s been leaked in the past, we’d still recommend you take this with a grain of salt. Reason being, while the moderators on the NX subreddit have taken utmost care in confirming the source’s identity and veracity of information, in an age where elaborate 3D-printed controller hoaxes are rife, it’s always best to temper expectations.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Pre-Order and Price Up for India

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Pre-Order and Price Up for India

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Pre-Order and Price Up for India
HIGHLIGHTS
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is priced for India
It won’t have any form of exclusivity unlike other games in the series
The game will be out on November 4 this year
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, the latest entry in the long-running shooter series from Activision finally has a price for India. Several retailers have the game up for pre-order with the likes of Amazon and Flipkart listing it shortly. The standard edition of the game will set you back by Rs. 3,499 on PC while PS4 and Xbox One versions cost Rs. 4,499.

And if you’re the sort who wants the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remaster with it, prepare to fork out Rs. 5,199 on PC and Rs. 6,299 on PS4 and Xbox One. Along with the 2007 classic it comes with 10 multiplayer maps as well.

What’s interesting is that this time around, distributor World Wide CD ROM has told Gadgets 360 that there will not be any form of pre-order or online exclusivity like it did with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. The game will be available to all game stores, both online and offline.

While this covers the disc-based copies of the game, ordering digitally does have a minor price advantage. Buying it via the PlayStation Store will cost you Rs. 3,999 while the Legacy Edition is for Rs. 5,999 and then there’s the Digital Deluxe Edition which contains the game, it’s Season Pass, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered for Rs. 7,999.
On the Xbox Store, the Standard Edition of the game costs Rs. 4,300. The Digital Deluxe Edition which includes the game, its Season Pass, as well as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will set you back by an even pricier Rs. 6,690. There’s a Digital Legacy Edition for Rs. 5,350 as well which consists of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.

As for the PC, you can pick the Standard Edition on Steam for Rs. 4,299, the Legacy Edition for Rs. 5,350, and the Digital Deluxe Edition for Rs. 6,690 – same as what you’d pay on the Xbox One.

Battlefield 1 Price Dropped for India

Battlefield 1 Price Dropped for India

Battlefield 1 Price Dropped for India
HIGHLIGHTS
Battlefield 1 has received a price drop in India prior to launch
The game is exclusive to Amazon India like other EA games
Battlefield 1 is still a cheaper game digitally
Until yesterday, a physical copy of Battlefield 1 would have set you back by Rs. 5,199 on the PS4 and Xbox One. This made it the most expensive standard edition game at retail in India. Not any more.

Amazon India – which is publisher EA’s exclusive partner in the country, has dropped the price of the game to Rs. 4,299 for the PS4 and Xbox One (EA stopped bringing in PC games on disc since 2014). In the past EA was known to price its games on par with first-party titles from Sony and Microsoft and this seems to have prevailed. The reason for the high price at the time, Gadgets 360 understands, was to match what you could expect to pay for a game in the UK or Europe what with a quick check on Amazon’s UK website confirming this parity once you account for taxes and duties. However this was not the case with FIFA 17 which sports a Rs. 3,999 price tag.

It also can’t be ruled out that this price drop could be a reaction to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare being Rs. 4,499 for consoles and Rs. 3,499 for PC or to capitalise on the Battlefield 1 open beta that’s going on right now.
Comparatively, Battlefield 1 will cost you a lot less digitally. It’s Rs. 3,500 for the Standard Edition on the Xbox One while the Early Enlister Deluxe Edition will cost you Rs. 4,240. And if you’re on the PS4, the Standard Edition is Rs. 3,375 while the Early Enlister Deluxe Edition is for Rs. 3,999. Both PS4 versions come with a theme that can be obtained when downloading the game.

If you’re looking to play Battlefield 1 on PC, you’ll have to shell out at least Rs. 3,499 for the game and it’s available digitally only. Pre-ordering nets you access to the Hellfighter pack, containing themed items inspired by the Harlem Hellfighter infantry regiment. It also includes seven days early access to a free multiplayer map released later in 2016. There’s the Early Enlister Deluxe Edition which costs Rs. 4,999. It comes with early access, allowing you to play three days prior to release. In addition to this are weapons and items inspired by Lawrence of Arabia, the Red Baron, as well as five Battlepacks which grant you access to guns, gear, and weapon upgrades.

Inspite of EA’s marketing tie-up with Microsoft, it’s notable that the game is still the cheapest on the PS4 unless you prefer it on PC, then you could buy it via EA Origin for Mexico which is known to have the cheapest price. Though this may change, what with EA revoking payment options that used to work via this loophole.
