Steam Black Friday 2016 Sale: GTA V, Skyrim, and More PC Game Deals

  • The Steam Black Friday sale ends on November 29
  • Games on discount include indie classics like Undertale
  • There is one discounted price per game for the duration of the sale

Earlier in the week we reported that Steam’s Black Friday sale will take place place from November 23 onwards. This has now been confirmed with the site itself replete with offers for the season. Dubbed as the Steam Autumn sale, here’s what you should check out.

Best Steam Black Friday deals

  • GTA V: this open-world crime classic is now Rs.1,468, a whole 50 percent cheaper than what it normally costs, making it well worth buying.
  • Undertale: last year’s indie darling is a steal at Rs. 184, half price from what it is usually. A great game that runs on almost any PC configuration.
  • Quantum Break: this one time Xbox One and Windows 10 PC exclusive is now on Steam with some interesting optimisations for PCs to boot. Well worth the Rs. 636 price of entry.
  • Batman: Arkham Knight: although your mileage in terms of performance will vary, Rocksteady’s last open-world adventure starring the caped crusader demands consideration at Rs.949.
  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: perhaps not as souped up as the recently released Skyrim Special Edition, it has the flexibility of extended mod support. After all, at Rs. 186 you’d be foolish not to check it out.

While these deals are great, Steam may not be the cheapest option. This holds true for games from publishers like Electronic Arts and Ubisoft who have their own digital distribution services. Also, if you can’t pick up anything during the current sale, don’t worry. There will be a Winter sale as well which should take place from December 22 to January 1.

Don Bradman Cricket 17 Release Date for PC Announced; May Not Be Available on Disc

Don Bradman Cricket 17 Release Date for PC Announced; May Not Be Available on Disc

Don Bradman Cricket 17 Release Date for PC Announced; May Not Be Available on Disc
Don Bradman Cricket 17’s PC release date is January 22
The game will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One on December 22
The PC version is probably digital only
If you thought you could play Don Bradman Cricket 17 on the PC at the same time as it hits the PS4 and Xbox One, think again. Developer Big Ant Studios has confirmed that the PC version of the game has been delayed to January 22.

“We have built completely new batting, bowling and fielding mechanics based on player feedback,” Big Ant Studios CEO, Ross Symons said in a prepared statement. “With Don Bradman 17 releasing right in the heart of the Aussie cricket season, we’re looking forward to players recreating the classic moments of the summer of cricket in their homes.”

(Also see: Don Bradman Cricket 17 Price in India and Release Date Confirmed)

“We were overwhelmed by the success of our first run at Don Bradman Cricket,” Symons added. “To this day players from around the world play it daily, whether they are simulating their favourite test team matchups, or playing games with as little as one over each side. We think they’re going to love the enhanced career mode, refined on-field mechanics, and enhanced visuals and animation. After all, many of the changes came as a direct result of feedback from our most dedicated fans.”

“The first Don Bradman Cricket game did a wonderful job of reflecting the heritage of The Don, and giving cricket fans around the world an authentic and accurate rendition of the sport on their gaming consoles,” Rina Hore from the Bradman Foundation said. “We’re looking forward to seeing how fans respond to this year’s greatly enhanced version.”

Furthermore, it appears that Big Ant could be following the footsteps of bigger publishers like Ubisoft and EA by not having a disc version of the game available at retail for PC. Reason being, a press release from the studio mentions a retail and digital release of the game on the PS4 and Xbox One. All that’s said for PC is that it would be available on Steam a month later.

PC Gamers in Myanmar Cannot Access Origin, EA Pledges a Fix ‘Soon As Possible’

PC Gamers in Myanmar Cannot Access Origin, EA Pledges a Fix 'Soon As Possible'

  • Gamers in Myanmar are unable to access or play PC games bought via Origin
  • Some claim this may be due to sanctions imposed on Myanmar by the US
  • EA tells Gadgets 360 it’s looking to resolve this as soon as possible

FIFA and Battlefield hit-maker EA may have reduced its presence in India over the past few years, but you can still get its games officially via Amazon or Origin – the company’s digital distribution platform for PC. Which is a bit better than what has happened in Myanmar.

According to a thread on Reddit, EA has revoked access to Origin completely in Myanmar.

“I live in Myanmar, and I own about 20 games on Origin, and have spent hundreds of dollars on the platform. I’ve bought the full editions of all of the Battlefield games up to this point, with their season passes,” claimed Redditor trivial_sublime.

(Also see:EA Wants to Win PC Gamers Back, but Its Actions Say Otherwise )

“ I was trying to log into Origin a few days ago, and got a bizarre ‘Access Denied’ message. I googled it, and found that ‘Origin is no longer available in Myanmar’, the post continues. “None of us has been offered a refund – just a ‘sorry, all your games are gone.’”

One of the comments on EA’s own forums claims it could be due to US laws.

(Also see:Steam vs Origin vs Uplay vs GOG vs Windows Store – A Definitive Guide

“Yes, with the Origin 10 update, US laws (which is where EA is based) forced them to block certain countries. Unfortunately you live in one of those countries. I’m sorry but there is nothing we can do here to allow you access again,” stated DarkAmaranth1966. This user is labelled as a Champion – a support volunteer picked by EA to assist other users but not an employee of the company. The response is odd considering that sanctions were lifted on October 7 and services such as Steam – which is also US-based, works fine.

It’s chilling that legitimate paying consumers can lose access to their purchases at a moment’s notice. Yet another reason to avoid buying games digitally aside from the obvious costs on bandwidth and storage space.

Update, October 31, 2016:

EA has replied to Gadgets 360 with the following statement via email:

“We are working to restore access to Origin for our players in Myanmar.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we’ll share updates on timing as soon as possible.”

Headline updated to clarify that EA is working on a solution and story updated to incorporate the company’s statement.

Fujitsu Says It Is in PC Merger Talks With Lenovo

Fujitsu Says It Is in PC Merger Talks With LenovoJapan’s Fujitsu said on Thursday it was in talks to merge its struggling PC business with Chinese computer giant Lenovo, sending its shares soaring as the company also announced a recovery in profits.

The talks come as Japanese personal computer makers work to scale back their businesses as consumers shift to smartphones and tablets.

Tokyo-based Fujitsu said it and Lenovo, the world’s largest PC maker, are “exploring a strategic cooperation in the realm of research, development, design and manufacturing of personal computers for the global market”.

The two firms, which are yet to reach an agreement, are also talking with government-backed Development Bank of Japan for financial and strategic support.

Fujitsu shares rose by 7.8 percent on news of the merger negotiations to close at JPY 599.3.

In a separate announcement, the company said its net profit for the six months to September came to JPY 11.8 billion ($113 million or roughly Rs. 755 crores).

The recovery marks a reversal from a net loss of JPY 15.9 billion during the same period last year, thanks to cost-cutting efforts particularly in the PC and mobile phone operations.Operating profit stood at JPY 25.9 billion, up from an operating loss of JPY 12.4 billion the year before, while sales fell 7.0 percent to JPY 2.08 trillion (roughly Rs. 1,32,869 crores).

Fujitsu also slightly revised down its annual sales forecast to JPY 4.5 trillion, JPY 100 billion lower than an earlier forecast due to revised exchange rate assumptions, but kept annual net profit projection at 85 billion yen.

This Laptop Deck Turns the HP Elite x3 into a PC and Phablet in One

The HP Elite x3 Lap Dock is a new offering from HP that turns your mobile phone into a laptop with many of the same capabilities.

The new HP (NYSE:HPQ) Elite x3 is a full featured phablet with a hefty price tag, and for small businesses that can afford it, the Lap Dock is the perfect accessory to make it a complete system.

Businesses now want a mobile device that can handle Microsoft’s Office applications just like a desktop, HP seems to be betting. They want their employees to have all the tools they need when they are outside of the office, which is what the HP Elite x3 delivers. But when they get back, it is important to seamlessly connect to peripherals that let these devices to continue functioning like a desktop. The Lap Dock makes that possible for the x3 with a very slim form factor device.

At first glance the Lap Dock looks like a regular laptop, but it is far from that. It is solely designed to extend the capability of the x3, and essentially has no guts. That means no processor, hard drive, RAM, etc.

When you open the device, you get a nearly borderless 12.5-inch diagonal LED-backlit Full HD (1920 x 1080) display, a backlit spill-resistant keyboard with drain and a large touchpad. It delivers the audio with integrated Bang & Olufsen stereo speakers, noise canceling microphones and stereo headphone jack.

The HP Elite x3 Lap Dock is a new offering from HP that turns your mobile phone into a laptop with many of the same capabilities.

The ports and connectors include micro HDMI, 1 USB Type-C for data and charging, 2 USB Type-C for data and power in/out. The whole thing is powered by a 4-cell 46W/hr battery that is powerful enough to charge the x3 when you run out of juice.

Pairing the x3 and Lap Dock is made possible with Miracast and WiGig technologies. All you have to do is place the phablet next to the dock, and you are ready to go. Continuum and HP Workspace take care of everything else.

The Lap Dock will be available November 14, 2016 for $599. So, with the HP Elite x3 starting at $799, price will clearly be the biggest barrier for budget conscious small businesses.

Lenovo, Fujitsu Said to Discuss Merger of PC Businesses

Lenovo, Fujitsu Said to Discuss Merger of PC BusinessesLenovo, Fujitsu Said to Discuss Merger of PC Businesses
The companies are aiming to reach agreement this month: Nikkei
Lenovo is also seeking to make further inroads into smartphones
Fujitsu would move its PC planning, development, manufacturing divisions
Lenovo Group Ltd. is in talks with Fujitsu Ltd. to merge their personal-computer businesses, with the Chinese manufacturer taking a majority stake in the venture, a person with knowledge of the matter said.

The two sides are still discussing pricing and terms, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the talks are private. The companies are aiming to reach agreement this month, according to the Nikkei newspaper, which reported the deal earlier Thursday.

An alliance with Fujitsu would give Lenovo, the world’s biggest PC maker, a bigger foundation to expand its share. Lenovo had 19.4 percent of the global PC market in 2015, compared with 2.1 percent for Fujitsu, according to IDC. Lenovo is also seeking to make further inroads into smartphones, while embarking on a plan to cut $1.35 billion from annual costs and eliminate 3,200 jobs. The company said in August that it was making progress and would turn around its business next year.

Fujitsu shares rose about 7 percent to JPY 575.7 as of 10:45am in Tokyo, after climbing as much as 8.6 percent. The stock had declined 11 percent this year through Wednesday. Lenovo’s shares climbed as much as 2.7 percent in Hong Kong, but remain down more than 30 percent in 2016.
Japan’s PC makers have been scaling back their operations or exiting the business entirely, as more people use mobile devices to check e-mail, manage their finances and access the web. Fujitsu had been struggling to find a partner, and talks with Vaio and Toshiba Corp. were on the verge of collapse, the Wall Street Journal reported in April.

The Nikkei reported that the Lenovo-Fujitsu business may merge in the future with Lenovo’s PC venture with NEC Corp., which was formed in 2011. Fujitsu would move its PC planning, development, manufacturing divisions to Lenovo as part of the deal, the Nikkei said, with about 2,000 Fujitsu workers likely to be relocated to Lenovo.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Game of the Year Edition for PC, PS4, and Xbox One Confirmed

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Game of the Year Edition for PC, PS4, and Xbox One Confirmed

  • Popular and critically acclaimed RPG The Witcher 3 will be re-released
  • This has been confirmed by developer CD Projekt RED
  • It should include all DLC, post-game content, and sport the same price

After a listing on the German age-ratings board USK revealed the existence of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt- Game of the Year Edition for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, developer CD Projekt RED has confirmed it is indeed in the works.

“The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was a gigantic effort for the entire studio, and both the team and me were amazed by the good reception of Geralt’s adventures. Since launch, we’ve released two expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, which added a lot of new adventures to the already potent mix,”said Game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz to Eurogamer.

(Also see: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Review – Game of Thrones Meets Skyrim)

“With all the free DLC and updates the game received so far, including significant changes to the game’s interface and mechanics, many gamers have asked us if we’re working on some sort of a Game of the Year Edition. I’m happy to confirm – yes, plans are in motion to release such an edition. We’ll release more details, including the release date, in the future. In the meantime, I’d like to thank every fan of the game for their support – you’re really amazing!”

(Also see: The Witcher 3 on PC and PS4 – Everything You Need To Know)

This should come as no surprise considering that the last two games in the trilogy received enhanced editions a year or so after release. While no price has been mentioned, we won’t be surprised to see it maintain the same Rs. 3,499 price on the PS4 and Xbox One and Rs. 1,499 on the PC – akin to what the base game launched at last year.

No release date has been either, although sources speaking to Eurogamer claim it will be out in August. Makes sense considering the September to November release window is filled to the brim with new games such as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, FIFA 17, Gears of War 4, and Titfanfall 2.

Xbox Store Ultimate Game Sale for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 Teased

Xbox Store Ultimate Game Sale for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 Teased

  • The Xbox Store will have deep discounts on games from July 5 to July 11
  • This will include PC and Xbox 360 titles as well as Xbox One games
  • You can save between 40 and 60 percent

If Valve’s Summer Sale wasn’t enough to contend with, Microsoft has teased a slew of deals for digital downloads on the PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. Dubbed the Xbox Ultimate Game Sale, it will take place from July 5 to July 11.

The teaser video for it claims that you will be able to save between 40 and 60 percent with Xbox Live Gold subscribers saving an additional 10 percent.

Titles that will be on sale include recent releases such as Doom, Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst, The Division, and Battleborn.

Other popular titles that will also sport a reduced price include Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Quantum Break, Halo 5, FIFA 16, The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, and GTA V.

For Xbox 360 owners, expect discounts on the likes of Saint’s Row 4, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and The Witcher 2 to name a few and expect these to be playable on the Xbox One as well.

Xbox One and Xbox 360 game deals aside, PC gamers will have something to look forward to as well.

“There are also over 30 great offers for all of the PC gamers out there. The deals include Quantum Break, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition,” a post from Microsoft claims.

Although getting games cheap is always better for consumers, keep in mind that most Xbox One games are around a 30GB to 40GB download while games like Quantum Break and Halo 5 are in excess of 120GB and 80GB respectively. For some, with slow Internet speeds or small data caps, it could work out to be a whole lot more expensive than ordering a physical copy from websites like Amazon or walking down to a store and buying an Xbox One game on a disc.

Here’s Why Quake Champions Is Exclusive to PC

Here's Why Quake Champions Is Exclusive to PC

  • Quake Champions is exclusive to PC.
  • id Software claims this has been done to ensure high frame rates.
  • Quake Champions has no release date yet.

At E3 2016 Bethesda announced Quake Champions. It’s the next entry in the franchise after 2005’s forgettable Quake 4.

While all Bethesda has shown off is a cinematic trailer boasting characters with their own unique skills, it promises to be a “fast paced arena based shooter”. What’s perplexing though, was the absence of a console release. Developer id Software shed light on Quake Champions’ PC exclusivity.

(Also see: Doom Developer Eyeing Possible Quake Reboot)

“It’s everything from input sampling of the mouse to making sure that your monitor refresh rate is fast enough,” Creative Director Tim Willits told Gamespot. “Because even with Quake Live, we have found throughout the years that going from 30 to 60 is huge, but even 60 to 120-is noticeable.” “Most of us, and even me, I can’t really tell the difference,” Willits added.

“But there are some players who are inhuman. And we can’t come out and say we’re going to make a game for them and not run ridiculously fast. “Because if we lose the pro guys, we’re in trouble.”

(Also see: Bethesda at E3 2016: Dishonored 2, Quake Champions, Skyrim HD, and More)

Being able to reach 120 frames-per-second and more, is why one of the things Willits is keen on making possible. “That’s why it’s a PC game. No excuses. No limitations,” he said.

And while we’re yet to get a release date, we should hear more about Quake Champions at Quakecon which should run from August 4 to August 7 this year.

PS4 Neo Does Not Mean Regular Upgrades Like PC or Mobile: Sony

PS4 Neo Does Not Mean Regular Upgrades Like PC or Mobile: Sony

  • Sony’s upgraded PS4, the PS4 Neo will not replace the existing PS4.
  • The PS4 Neo doesn’t mean yearly console upgrades.
  • PS4 and PS4 Neo will share the same software.

A week ago, Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios insisted that your PS4 will not be obsolete when the PS4 Neo, its beefier iterative variant hits the shelves.

“PS4 is PS4 new high-end PS4 is still PS4 so you know the life-cycle is not going to be shorter,” Yoshidasaid at the time.

It appears that Andrew House, President and Global Chief Executive of Sony Interactive Entertainment shares the same sentiment. According to DualShockers, during the company’s investor day in Tokyo, House explained the difference in user mentality wherein mobile users upgrade hardware every one or two years, but in the console business the upgrade cycle is at least five or six years.

Don’t expect a successor to the PS4 Neo or the company to follow the path of regular upgrades akin to mobile or PC markets. Furthermore, the PS4 Neo doesn’t signal a change in hardware generation either.

Nonetheless, due to technology evolving as fast as it does there’s potential, he claimed. This is why the latest and greatest is introduced in the middle of the PS4’s lifecycle. But in order to keep existing consumers from bewilderment, Sony plans to keep what is referred to as a “one console world” with the same software for both.

This should come as a relief for many an existing PS4 owner and those looking to buy it what with Sony having a wealth of bundles available. It’s also a smart move considering over 40 million PS4s have been sold, the last thing Sony want to do is anger existing users.
