Need High End Photography for Business? Details of Panasonic’s Lumix GH5 Emerge

Eagerly Awaiting the New Panasonic Lumix GH5 Camera? No 6K Photos Until Next Year

Image capturing technology has evolved so much, near professional grade solutions are readily available on smartphones. But no matter how good the technology is on a mobile device, standalone cameras are still the way to go if you really want full professional grade features. The announcement of Panasonic’s Lumix GH5 camera is greatly anticipated because of the success the GH4 achieved in terms of reviews and sales.

Panasonic (TYO:6752) didn’t reveal much at PhotoKina 2016, the world’s largest trade fair for the photographic and imaging industries, which will be going on until September 25, 2016 in Germany.

First of all, the GH5 will not be available until early 2017. There is no exact date or price for the camera. Second, the features Panasonic announced are just enough to tease potential customers with some impressive capabilities.

An Early Peek at the Panasonic Lumix GH5 Camera

Here is the wow feature Panasonic said will be on the GH5: the first 4K/60p capability in a consumer ILC (interchangeable lens camera), which will provide 4:2:2 10-bit 4K video. And when it comes to capturing still images, it has another impressive capability, a 6K Photo mode that will extract 18MP stills from burst footage, or 8MP stills from 60p 4K clips.

This is the extent of what Panasonic made available, but if past developments are any indication, there will be more features on the GH5.

One of the advances that made the GH4 so successful was the hybrid performance it was able to deliver. The 4K PHOTO feature it introduced let users capture still images that were much too fast for the naked eye by saving high-quality photos from super-fast 4K resolution video frames at 30 fps. The feature was acclaimed by a wide range of professional photographers and videographers around the world. With the GH5, this will be upgraded to 6K still photos, which will deliver new levels of detail, whether it is for print or the ultra-high definition display technology in the market place.

The Panasonic Lumix GH4 is an affordable professional grade camera compared to Canon and other brands. At around $1,600 on Amazon, it has the right set of features for taking stills and video for small business photographers.

If Panasonic keeps the price low while adding these innovations, the company will continue to capture market shares from other brands.

10 Features of Apple’s iOS 10 Small Businesses Need to Know About

10 iOS 10 Features for Business That Small Businesses Need to Know About

The new iOS 10 by Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been described by the company as its biggest release yet, and as an operating system with more personal, powerful and playful features. The good thing for small business owners is that the new features would seem to drastically enhance the way you can run your business on your iPhone or iPad.

Whether you are using the new iPhone 7 or many of the previous versions also supported by iOS 10, there are some new features that will make you more productive, the company says.

Here are 10 features small business owners can start experimenting with right away with iOS 10.

iOS 10 Features for Business

Comprehensive Privacy and Advanced Security

With smartphones and tablets now inexorably linked to the way we do business, and the threat of digital security also an inevitable part of this ecosystem, it is extremely important to have a comprehensive privacy and advance security solution in place.

The privacy features in iOS 10 now requires your permission if an app in Calendar, Contacts, Reminders, Photos or others want your location information or personal data. This features extends with even more control to the way in which HealthKit and HomeKit access your data.

Your conversations in iMessages and FaceTime are encrypted, so hackers waiting in the middle of a conversation won’t be able to see, hear or read what you are communicating. And when you are on Safari surfing the web, you can browse privately, block cookies, and prevent websites from tracking you.

The security, according to Apple, is the most advanced security of any mobile operating system. The new features help secure your personal protection with hardware and firmware that have been designed to protect against malware and viruses throughout the entire system. The device is protected with Touch ID and the apps have high-grade encryption, app transport security, and more.

Maximized Graphic Performance

When you are on a smartphone or tablet the last thing you want is lackluster performance from your device. Since iOS has been engineered specifically for the iPhone and iPad with a framework the company calls Metal, it is able to maximize graphic performance whether you are videoconferencing, accessing applications from the cloud, viewing a PowerPoint presentation, moving from app to app or playing the most complex 3D video game after a hard day of work.

Enchanced Machine Intelligence

The new OS has been designed to take advantage of the progress that has taken place in software intelligence. This includes Apple-developed machine-learning technology, which has also been incorporated into Siri.

The result is a more intuitive system that makes everything you do with your device easier and faster.  Proactive suggestion, and predictive typing have been combined with Siri for a personal assistant that will answer many of your questions and take your requests by speaking naturally. Siri now works with your favorite apps, so you can request a ride, send payments using Square Cash, book a reservation through OpenTable, and more.

Continuity Across All Devices

Even if your business is mobile first, there are multiple computing devices that are part of the total technological solutions in place in your company. This generally means laptops and desktops both at the office and at home. In order to ensure continuity across all devices, iCloud and iOS automatically connect many of Apple’s products.

You can start a task on the iPad and finish it on your Mac and stream video from your iPhone or iPad to your television through Apple TV. Everything gets synced automatically, so any time you add a new document, image or video the latest version will appear on all your devices.

AirDrop for Large File Sharing

You now work outside of the office just as much as you do inside, and this means sharing large files that far exceed the limitations of email servers. AirDrop is a feature that lets you send large files wirelessly no matter where you are, so you won’t have to go back to the office when you are on location.

Handoff Email and Messaging Across Devices and Solutions

The continuity feature extends to an application called Handoff which lets you write an email and hand it off to Mail, Safari, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Maps, Messages, Reminders, Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Podcasts, Clock, and News.

When you are ready to text you can send messages from any of your devices, receive it on your iPhone and reply on your iPad or Mac. You can choose a number from Safari, Contacts or Calendar to quickly send a text message.

Multilingual Typing

We live in a very connected world, and even the smallest of businesses now interacts with people in many countries around the world. This means multiple languages, and the multilingual typing feature lets you type in two languages at the same time without having to switch keyboards.

The OS recognizes English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish pairs, as well as Chinese.

CarPlay

As a small business owner on  the go, you can sometimes use your car as your second office. CarPlay makes it possible to safely and easily use your iPhone to make calls, send and receive messages, get directions and more so you can focus on your driving. It puts the functions you want to use on the built-in display of the vehicle so you can control them with your voice, touch or the knobs and controls of the car. Currently CarPlay is available on more than 100 automobile models, with more on the way.

Unsecured WiFi Network Warning

Free WiFi is so tempting but if you are not 100 percent sure it is secure, you can easily fall victim to an attack. Unsecured WiFi Network Warning makes recommendations when you connect your iOS device to an unsecured network.

New Notifications with 3D Touch

The new rich Notifications feature lets you quickly view videos, photos and reply. All it takes is tapping on the notification to launch the app or force press with the new feature rich 3D Touch to popup a preview. It also lets you clear the notification and delete emails from the expanded notification.

New APIs for Developers

Although Apple is notorious for protecting its intellectual property, the company has been coming around after witnessing the great benefits of what APIs have accomplished for other companies.  The Apple iOS 10 SDK has new APIs and services that now contain its more popular applications, including Messages, Siri, and Maps. Developers will now be able to create innovative functionalities using Apple’s platform creating more business models for small developers.

Greater Compatibility with Other Apple — and Android — Devices

The new iOS 10 is compatible with: iPhone 7 and 7 Plus; iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, 6, 6 Plus; iPhone SE; iPhone 5s, 5c, 5; iPad Pro 12.9-inch and 9.7-inch; iPad Air 2; iPad Air; iPad 4th generation; iPad mini 4; iPad mini 3; iPad mini 2; and iPod touch 6th generation.

Apple has also made it much easier to move to iOS on your Android device. You can download the Move to iOS app on your Android device from any Android app store, and it supports all phones and tablets running Android 4.0 and later. You can get more information from Apple here.

ChampOne C1 the New Freedom 251? All You Need to Know About Rs. 501 Smartphone

ChampOne C1 the New Freedom 251? All You Need to Know About Rs. 501 Smartphone

HIGHLIGHTS

  • ChampOne is looking to conduct a flash sale on September 2
  • The pre-registrations will be inactive for 24 hours, site claims
  • The smartphone will delivered through Cash On Delivery option

After the uproar that Ringing Bells created with its Rs. 251 smartphone, there is another company that has now cropped up to compete with it. An unheard-of company called ChampOne has listed a smartphone calledChampOne C1 on its website, with a price tag of Rs. 7,999. The company is launching the smartphone at Rs. 501 in its first flash sale on September 2 – for which registrations are now open. Well, sort of.

The website looks shabby at best, and the registration button is inactive. The company has put out a disclaimer citing “payment gateway” difficulties, and says that registrations won’t work for the next 24 hours. However, it says that the smartphone will be sold through the ‘Cash On Delivery Option’ so we don’t see why they even need a payment gateway. Some reports point to a registration fee, which in itself seems fishy.

The Jodhpur-based company has listed a toll free number, and two other phone support numbers. All our calls went unanswered, while one of the numbers was switched off. ChampOne appears to be one of the numerous startups that have recently started sprouting up in India, looking to make headlines by launching smartphones at incredible prices. The first amongst the spate of firms was Ringing Bells, and while the company is finally delivering its first smartphones, other firms appear to have fizzled out before launch. We advise all readers to stay away from deals that seem too good to be true from brand new companies without a service history or a reputation to lose.

x

In any case, the ChampOne C1 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop and supports dual-SIM. It features a 5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) IPS display, and is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6735 quad-core processor with 2GB RAM. It offers 16GB of inbuilt storage. Optics include an 8-megapixel back camera, and a 5-megapixel front snapper. There’s a 2500mAh battery packed inside, and connectivity options include 4G LTE support. It will be made available in White, Silver, and Gold colour options.

Of course, the glitching website reminds us of the horrible inefficiency by Ringing Bells when it first announced its smartphone. The company hadn’t ‘anticipated the demand’ for its. Rs 251 smartphone, and is still struggling to meet demands. The company first claimed that it was backed by the government and was part of the Make in India campaign, only to retrace its footsteps and mention that it was importing assembled smartphones, and has asked the government for support. The company was also accused of defrauding its customer service partner by refusing to pay dues. After too many delays, the company even tried to make amends by saying that it will refund the money of first phase’s 30,000 Freedom 251 customers – and will accept cash upon delivery.

Another company that made headlines recently for what were found to be fraudulent tactics was mPhone, which was all set to announce its smartphone portfoliio in the country. However, those plans came to a grinding halt, after the co-founders were arrested at the launch venue for alleged fraudulent activities. The company was set to launch six smartphones in the country ranging from Rs. 11,999 to Rs. 39,999, but we haven’t heard of anything post their arrest.

Also, let’s not forget the Docoss X1 launched by a Jaipur-based company for Rs. 888. Their website itself was extremely fishy, with many technical goof-ups. Their customer care support also proved to be very vague. The smartphone was to begin shipping in May, but it still hasn’t managed to do that yet. The website currently mentions that the smartphone will be shipped soon.

Set to become third largest aviation market

Airbus today predicted that India will require about 1,600 new aircraft by 2034, as it is on way to becoming the third largest aviation market.

According to Airbus’ latest global Market Forecast released at Hyderabad at the India Aviation 2016, in the 20 years from 2015 to 2034, India will require over 1,600 new passenger and freighter aircraft to help meet growth in demand. Valued at $224 billion, these will include 1,230 single-aisle aircraft and 380 wide-body passenger and freighter aircraft.

By 2035, the report expects the number of Indian cities with over one million monthly air passengers will more than triple.

Addressing a conference, Joost van der Heijden, Vice-President, Marketing Asia, and Srinivas Dwarakanath, President, Airbus Division in India, said India’s preference for Airbus aircraft was further consolidated in 2015 with 250 new firm orders, lifting the market share of orders and the in-service fleet to over 70 per cent.

Today, some 56 per cent of India’s in-service fleet are Airbus aircraft operated by most leading Indian carriers. This includes India’s first A320neo, the first to be delivered in the Asia region, Dwarakanath said.

Air traffic growth is driven by urbanisation, the growth in wealth, as seen by the growing middle classes, tourism and trade. India’s population is set to surpass China’s by 2025, and according to Oxford Economics, the number of Indian middle classes will top 600 million people, more than double that of the US. By 2034, Indian passengers on average will each make four times as many flights as they do today.

As a result, traffic serving the Indian market is set to grow at 8.4 per cent per year over the next 20 years, well above the world average of 4.6 per cent. Domestic Indian traffic will grow more quickly at 9.3 per cent – making India the world’s leading emerging aviation market.

Airbus expects to further consolidate its business in India as it adds to its customer base and strengthens its sourcing.

Dwarakanath said their cumulative procurement from India is set to reach $2 billion by 2020.

Why University Spin Offs Need Engineers on the Founding Team

students

Recently a team of graduate students came to me to talk about a company they were planning to start. They had an option to license a university invention that used would detect heavy metal ions in water.

They had clearly researched the idea and had identified a market. They would sell sensors to companies required to comply with Environment Protection Agency standards.

As I listened to them describe their idea, my mind kept coming back to the same question: How would they make the sensors? No one on the team was an engineer, let alone an engineer with expertise in designing these types of devices.

Their plan was to outsource the development of the sensor to a third party. My gut reaction was that this effort would fail. I could be wrong — as I often am — but I don’t think entrepreneurs can be successful using third parties to develop university spin offs.

The first problem is that university inventions are at a far too early stage to develop new products from them without numerous problems and setbacks first. It is one thing to prove that a concept works in a beaker, but it’s another entirely to produce a product that works in the real world.

That means a lot of iterative work. Chances are that the product developer will have to figure out how to make the sensor for one heavy metal at a time, modifying it to adapt to differences between them. What works for cadmium might not work for lead or mercury. If developing a viable sensor will take numerous iterations over time contracting for development by a third party is going to prove hard to do.

The second problem is that they are proposing outsourcing the core of their company. You can outsource aspects of a business that are not central your operations — human resource management in a robotics start-up for instance — but not the key innovations that provide the basis of value to customers. You can’t create a company like Oculus Rift, for example, through outsourcing since the very value of the company lies in the virtual reality products that they are creating.

The third problem is that outsourcing what you don’t understand is a selection and monitoring nightmare. How do you decide who among potential candidates is going to be better at making a heavy metals sensor if you don’t know how to make one yourself? How will you figure out if they have gone off track if you don’t know what the product development track is?

A fourth problem is how to pay for the outsourced development. Where will the money come from to pay the developers? Few investors will spend money on product development from first time entrepreneurs, especially if this product development could be done in house by a member of the venture team. And the team members don’t have the money to pay for the development themselves.

My recommendation to the team was simple: Find someone who has developed sensors in this technology and industry space and get them to join the founding team.

With a member of the founding team who has the expertise to create the product, there’s a chance that the venture will get off the ground. Without it, I don’t see a path to creating a business.
