Facility launched at Shivaji Stadium Metro station
Wi-Fi facility was already available at four major Metro stations
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has now launched free Wi-Fi facilities at metro stations that fall on Airport Express Line. Moreover, it has announced that it plans to roll out this facility to all metro stations gradually. DMRC’s Managing Director Mangu Singh launched the facility on Friday at Shivaji Stadium Metro station.

In order to provide free Wi-Fi facilities, DMRC has tied up with a consortium of companies led by M/s Techno Sat Comm, which currently runs India’s first Wi-Fi-on-train service on Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express. “The facility will use the globally acclaimed ‘T-Track 2.0 Wave 2 Solution’, also used on high speed trains worldwide,” DMRC said in its press release on Friday.

Spotify Free Users Complain of Malware-Infested Ads; Company Addresses Issue

Spotify Free Users Complain of Malware-Infested Ads; Company Addresses Issue

Some Spotify Free users were treated to malware-infested ads with their ad-supported music streaming service. Some users have reported on the company’s forum that random, malicious ads pop-up on the default browser while running Spotify’s freemium service.

The Next Web reports that while the original report was based on a Windows 10 machine, the malware also seems to pop up on other operating systems as well including Linux and macOS. Spotify has acknowledged the malvertising issue and told Engadget that the issue is an isolated on and has since “shut it down”.

(Also see: Spotify Debuts in Japan, Complete With Karaoke Lyrics)

“If you have Spotify Free open, it will launch – and keep on launching – the default Internet browser on the computer to different kinds of malware / virus sites,” wrote user Tonyonly on the company’scommunity page. “Some of them do not even require user action to be able to cause harm,” he added.

In a reply to the user’s complaint, Spotify said, “We’ve identified an issue where a small number of users were experiencing a problem with questionable website pop-ups in their default browsers as a result of an isolated issue with an ad on our Free tier. We have now identified the source of the problem and have shut it down. We will continue to monitor the situation. If you see this issue again, please let us know the exact date and time in this thread.”

In 2011, Spotify faced a similar issue where it displayed malicious ads to some users. The company rectified the problem and issued a public apology.

While Spotify confirms to have fixed the issue, users should still maintain caution and download ad-blockers if running Spotify Free, or shift to the company’s ad-free version instead.

PlayStation VR to Launch With Free Demo Disc Containing Eight Games

PlayStation VR to Launch With Free Demo Disc Containing Eight Games

PlayStation VR to Launch With Free Demo Disc Containing Eight Games
HIGHLIGHTS
Each PlayStation VR unit at launch will have a demo disc
The demo disc contains eight games to try
PlayStation VR is out internationally from October 13
Sony has announced that every PlayStation VR (PS VR) unit available at launch will have a demo disc containing eight games. These include:

Driveclub VR
PlayStation VR Worlds
Rigs Mechanized Combat League
Tumble VR
Battlezone
Eve: Valkyrie
Wayward Sky
Headmaster
(Also see: Sony Reveals PlayStation VR Price, Release Date, and Specifications)

Of these, Driveclub VR and Eve: Valkyrie are the most well known. The former has been touted to hit VR since its inception while the latter is a multiplayer dogfighting game set in space and was exclusive to the Oculus Rift. Rigs is from Killzone: Mercenary developer Guerrilla Cambridge and it’s focussed on frantic first-person combat using mechanised suits. Battlezone is an action game that has you commandeering a tank, it’s one Sony has been demoing quite heavily. PlayStation VR Worlds lets users bask in the depth of the ocean – well, at least in the demo, with the full game packing four more additional settings. Tumble is a VR take on the classic block stacking puzzle games of yore, while Headmaster has you as a footballer honing your skills in what seems to be a prison. Finally Wayward Sky has you exploring a crumbling air fortress.

The use of a demo disc to introduce customers to VR is a shrewd idea. When Sony first started out in the console business, it employed the same tactic to get a generation hooked on the original PlayStation. It could very well be the break VR needs, what with adoption reaching a crashing halt as per the latest Steam survey.

With PS VR set to be available from October 13 internationally, an India date is yet to be fixed. While other regions like Japan, UK, and US have had their pre-orders live for awhile, we wondered if India would be privy to the same any time soon. However this seems unlikely.

“Currently we do not have plans of conducting pre-orders till confirmed date of VR India launch is available,” a spokesperson for Sony India explained to Gadgets 360 over email.

A new director’s commentary video series titled “Imagining BioShock” with creative director Ken Levine and lead animator Shawn Robertson will be bundled in. It’s one of the rare occasions where buying a game during a sale lets you get its newer version for free when it hits.

The same applies to buying The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and all its add-ons for Rs. 806, it allows you to get The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition for free when it hits on October 28 instead of paying Rs. 2,999 which is what Bethesda’s games tend to sell for on PC. Buying Skyim and its add-ons usually costs Rs. 1,954, making this the most inexpensive way to buy Skyrim Special Edition.
