HTC 10 evo Launched: Price, Release Date, Specifications, and More
HIGHLIGHTS
HTC 10 evo is a global variant of the HTC Bolt
It has been priced at TWD 17,990 (approximately Rs. 38,500) for the 32GB
It will be going on sale in Taiwan
HTC has unveiled the new HTC 10 evo smartphone in Taiwan. The new HTC 10-series smartphone has been also listed on the company’s UK site. The HTC 10 evo is the global variant of the Sprint-exclusive HTC Bolt which was launched recently in the US.

Much like the HTC Bolt, the HTC 10 evo will be available in Gunmetal, Silver, and Gold colours. The smartphone is now available to pre-order in Taiwan from the company’s E-Store. It has been priced at TWD 17,990 (approximately Rs. 38,500) for the 32GB variant while the 64GB variant has been priced at TWD 19,900 (approximately Rs. 43,000). The company website confirms that the HTC 10 evo will start shipping in Taiwan from November 28. Unfortunately, there is no word when the smartphone will be available in UK, or mention of its UK pricing.

One of the biggest highlights of the HTC 10 evo is it packs USB Type C-enabled headphones. The HTC 10 evo smartphone also comes with support for HTC BoomSound Adaptive Audio.
The HTC 10 evo smartphone, similar to the HTC Bolt, features a 5.5-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and sports a water-resistant aluminium build. Running Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box, HTC 10 evo comes with features like split-screen view, free unlimited photo storage with Google Photos app, and inbuilt Google Duo video calling app. The handset sports fingerprint scanner below the display which is claimed to unlock the device in just 0.2 seconds.
One of the biggest questionable hardware choices made by HTC for the HTC 10 evo (and the HTC Bolt) is putting the date Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 under the hood, which is known to be responsible for heating issues with many smartphones. It packs 3GB of RAM and supports expandable storage via microSD card (up to 2TB).

It sports a 16-megapixel rear camera which comes with OIS (optical image stabilisation), 4K video recording, and PDAF (phase detection autofocus). There is an 8-megapixel front-facing camera on-board as well and the smartphone also features screen flash. The HTC 10 evo packs a 3200mAh battery and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 fast charging technology.

There is no official word on the smartphone’s price yet, which costs $439 (roughly Rs. 29,800) for the 64GB version and $479 (Rs. 32,500) for the 128GB model. As a consolation for OnePlus 3 buyers in India, the smartphone has received a new incremental update that has added the emergency calling feature. The smartphone also gets full-HD (1080p) recording at 60fps with the new OxygenOS 3.2.8 update.

Apple working on bringing 3D photography to iPhone 8
Apple is reportedly planning to bring 3D photography to iPhone 8. The company is said to have partnered with LG Innotek to add a dual-camera setup to the next iPhone to capture 3D imagery. The report says that the efforts are “likely to bear fruit within the next year.” iPhone 8 is also said to come with features like wireless charging and all-glass design.

You can now use old Rs. 500 notes to recharge prepaid mobiles
The government has announced that the old Rs. 500 notes, which were demonetised in a move to fight black money in India, can now be used to recharge prepaid mobile phones till December 15. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has applauded the move and said that the government’s decision to allow old Rs. 500 notes to be used for prepaid mobile recharges will help users to continue using mobile services without disruption.
Mobile industry to account for 8.2 percent of GDP by 2020
A government report has said that the contribution of the mobile industry to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will rise to 8.2 percent by 2020. The industry will also add 8,00,000 more jobs during the period, says the ‘The Mobile Economy, India 2016′ report. India is also expected to cross 1 billion unique mobile subscribers landmark in 2020.

Xiaomi says shrinking sales won’t hurt
Declining smartphone sales are not a cause of concern for Xiaomi, whose global vice president Hugo Barra said that sales of smart home devices and revenue of software ecosystem will drive its profit growth. He added that the company is targeting Chinese users travelling to the US, and is preparing to directly sell its products to consumers in the US. The company, which missed its smartphone sales target by 12 percent in 2015, will also unveil a device at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January.

HTC 10 users will start receiving the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the smartphone on Friday, according to the HTC’s Vice President of Product Management Mo Versi. Considering that Versi didn’t mention any particular region for the rollout, it can be assumed that the company will be rolling out the Nougat update globally.

Google warning journalists about state-sponsored attacks on their accounts
Google has reportedly notified notable journalists and professors in the US that their accounts were under attack by government-backed attackers. The prominent personalities warned by Google include New York Times columnist and Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman, New York Magazine reporter Jonathan Chait, former US diplomat and Stanford University professor Michael McFaul, GQ correspondent Keith Olbermann, and Atlantic magazine writer Jon Lovett. Speaking to Ars Technica, a Google spokesperson said that the recent warnings might be a result of the hacking attempts made on user accounts over the last month or so.

Final Fantasy XV Has an Early Release Date, Ending Streamed on YouTube

Final Fantasy XV Has an Early Release Date, Ending Streamed on YouTube

Final Fantasy XV Has an Early Release Date, Ending Streamed on YouTube
HIGHLIGHTS
Final Fantasy XV is available in regions such as South America
The game’s official release date is November 29
Its ending has been posted on YouTube
The release date of Final Fantasy XV is November 29. And like nearly every big console game we’ve seen this year, the game has found it on the shelves in a host of regions prior to that. A little more than a week prior to the day, gamers in Peru, Argentina, and the UAE are already playing it. Unconfirmed reports have suggested those in the USA have got it early as well.

(Also see: Final Fantasy XV Day One Patch Details Revealed; Suggests Game on Disc Is Incomplete)

And while the game has a reportedly long playthrough time, it seems that eager fans have already finished it. Going as far as to streaming its ending on YouTube only for publisher Square Enix to take it down.

For a game that’s been in development for close to a decade, you’d think Square Enix would take more care to prevent early leaks like this. However this doesn’t seem to be case.

We won’t be surprised to see the game available early in other markets soon enough. So much so that countries like India where role-playing games (RPGs) aren’t as popular as they are in the West, should see the game available well ahead of release.

Earlier in the year, Final Fantasy XV game director Hajime Tabata suggested that the game would come to PC.
(Also see: Final Fantasy XV Release Date Delayed. Here’s Why.)

“I’m quite positive about the idea of developing a PC version, but I would like to make a very different project if possible,” Tabata told French video gaming site JeuxVideo, which was translated by Nova Crystallis. “The reason I’m interested is that a PC version would propel the game to another technical level.”

“I have in mind a version of Final Fantasy XV that is more technically developed. This version could incorporate things that we were forced to abandon because of the limitations of home consoles. With the PC, this would be an opportunity to release a version far superior in terms of quality and tech.”

(Also see: Final Fantasy XV Platinum Demo Left Us Surprised)

While PC fans of Final Fantasy will be glad to hear they haven’t been forgotten by Square Enix, Tabata said it would take a while as they aren’t interested in doing a “simple port”.

“That said, if we choose to develop this project, the development will start from scratch by doing research of what would be the best technology to use. It might not be a simple port of the console version,” he added.

Don Bradman Cricket 17 Release Date for PC Announced; May Not Be Available on Disc

Don Bradman Cricket 17 Release Date for PC Announced; May Not Be Available on Disc

Don Bradman Cricket 17 Release Date for PC Announced; May Not Be Available on Disc
HIGHLIGHTS
Don Bradman Cricket 17’s PC release date is January 22
The game will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One on December 22
The PC version is probably digital only
If you thought you could play Don Bradman Cricket 17 on the PC at the same time as it hits the PS4 and Xbox One, think again. Developer Big Ant Studios has confirmed that the PC version of the game has been delayed to January 22.

“We have built completely new batting, bowling and fielding mechanics based on player feedback,” Big Ant Studios CEO, Ross Symons said in a prepared statement. “With Don Bradman 17 releasing right in the heart of the Aussie cricket season, we’re looking forward to players recreating the classic moments of the summer of cricket in their homes.”

(Also see: Don Bradman Cricket 17 Price in India and Release Date Confirmed)

“We were overwhelmed by the success of our first run at Don Bradman Cricket,” Symons added. “To this day players from around the world play it daily, whether they are simulating their favourite test team matchups, or playing games with as little as one over each side. We think they’re going to love the enhanced career mode, refined on-field mechanics, and enhanced visuals and animation. After all, many of the changes came as a direct result of feedback from our most dedicated fans.”

“The first Don Bradman Cricket game did a wonderful job of reflecting the heritage of The Don, and giving cricket fans around the world an authentic and accurate rendition of the sport on their gaming consoles,” Rina Hore from the Bradman Foundation said. “We’re looking forward to seeing how fans respond to this year’s greatly enhanced version.”

(Also see: Don Bradman Cricket Review: If Cricket Is a Religion, This Is Prayer)

Furthermore, it appears that Big Ant could be following the footsteps of bigger publishers like Ubisoft and EA by not having a disc version of the game available at retail for PC. Reason being, a press release from the studio mentions a retail and digital release of the game on the PS4 and Xbox One. All that’s said for PC is that it would be available on Steam a month later.

Amazon Launches New Kindle Oasis, Most Expensive To Date

amazon kindle oasis0

Each new iteration of Amazon’s Kindle e-reader brings with it new innovations and price points that make these devices a great value. However, this time around, Amazon might have jacked up the price a bit too much for the Kindle Oasis.

Early reviews of the Kindle Oasis have been great, with virtually everyone agreeing on the functional improvements Amazon has made for this reader. But they also agree the $289.99 price tag is high, compared to the Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Voyage, which come in at $80, $120, and $200 respectively.

What the Amazon Oasis Gives You for $290

The Kindle Oasis is 30 percent thinner and 20 percent lighter than previous Kindles.  When portable gadgets lose size, it generally means the battery suffers, and this is the case with Oasis. However, Amazon has overcome this challenge with a frame and cover that doubles as a rechargeable battery. According to the company, you can expect a battery life of eight weeks with 30 minutes of daily reading or months on standby. If you don’t use the case, you can get more than 2 weeks of battery life.

The Kindle Oasis weighs in at only 4.6 ounces or 131 grams with a new 6-inch Paperwhite display. It has 60 percent more LEDs for better reading under all light conditions. It is made from chemically reinforced glass that is much stronger, but still maintains the same 300 ppi resolution and similar contrast of the Paperwhite and Voyage Kindles.

The brains and battery for the Oasis are housed on the right side of the device with a tapered design that doubles as grip (If you are a lefty, don’t worry, a built in accelerometer automatically changes the content when you hold it on your left hand).  This makes one handed operation of the Kindle much easier, letting you use your thumb to access the front bezel to turn pages.

amazon kindle oasis

Kindle Oasis Specs

  • Display: Amazon’s 6″ Paperwhite display technology with E Ink Carta and built-in light, 300 ppi, optimized font technology, 16-level gray scale.
  • Size: 5.6″ x 4.8″ x 0.13-0.33″ (143 mm x 122 mm x 3.4-8.5 mm)
  • Cover: 5.7” x 4.9” x 0.07-0.18” (144 mm x 125 mm x 1.9-4.6 mm)
  • Weight Wi-Fi: 4.6 oz (131 g); Wi-Fi + 3G: 4.7 oz (133 g); Cover: 3.8 oz (107 g)
  • On-Device Storage: 4 GB; holds thousands of books.
  • Cloud Storage: Free cloud storage for all Amazon content.
  • Charge Time: Fully charges in less than 3 hours from a computer via USB cable.
  • Wi-Fi Connectivity: Supports 802.11b, 802.11g, or 802.11n standard with support for WEP, WPA and WPA2 security using password authentication or Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS).
  • Content Formats Supported: Kindle Format 8 (AZW3), Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively; HTML, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP through conversion.

Kindles are E-readers, and besides the connectivity they offer to download books, there is little else you can use the device for in business. But you can receive documents on it using WiFi or free 3G connectivity.

Unlike other mobile devices, e-readers and tablets have longer lives. This means the well-made Kindle readers of the past are still being used, and it will take real innovation for owners of these devices to buy another one. While the Kindle Oasis has some noteworthy improvements, it may not be enough for older Kindle owners to ditch their perfectly working readers for this version. When you add the higher price tag to the equation, it may be a deal breaker.

You can preorder the Kindle Oasis now, with shipping scheduled to start on April 27th.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Has an Early Release Date in the UK

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Has an Early Release Date in the UK

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Legacy Edition of Infinite Warfare is already on sale
  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s official release date is November 4
  • This hasn’t stopped copies from being sold early

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is out on November 4. Unless of course you’re in the UK. Retailer CEX – which specialises in used gadgets and games, has wrangled early copies for sale. Albeit for a princely sum of around Rs. 7,337.

“ Perks of working in CEX! 3 days early who wants to im selling for £90! Brand new! No codes used! Just opens seal!” exclaimed a description on an image posted on Instagram by user verace_ridz.

The picture is that of the Legacy Edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare which includes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered – an HD re-release of 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

This isn’t the first time CEX has had a game available for sale ahead of its official release. Earlier in the year, Uncharted 4 could be purchased two weeks ahead of time. Later Sony stated the copies for sale were stolen.

With the game due on November 4, it’s unlikely that India will see an early release. Activision’s distributor World Wide CD ROM is known for running a tight ship, particularly for popular titles such as this.

Nonetheless, if you prefer getting it digitally, you can pre-load Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare on the PS4 and Xbox One right now. There’s been no announcement of when it will be available for download on the PC, but according to some you can expect to download it from November 1, 10am PST (10:30pm IST) onwards. This is when the Steam store updates globally, and would put it on par with the pre-load of previous COD games.

Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection Release Date and Price Leaked
HIGHLIGHTS
Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection may be available on November 17
It contains three games featuring popular protagonist Ezio
The trilogy will grace the PS4 and Xbox One
A couple of weeks ago it was discovered that Ubisoft was working on a remaster called Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection. It would contain Assassin’s Creed 2, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations – three games starring the franchise’s most popular protagonist, Ezio.

Today, Amazon Italy has listed a release date for it. Assassin’s Creed: The Ezio Collection will be able from November 17 for a price of 50.82 Euros (around Rs. 3,800). If this pricing is accurate, you can expect it to be available in India for Rs. 2,999 or Rs. 3,499 which is what remasters usually go for in the country.

Earlier in the year Ubisoft stated that Assassin’s Creed would be taking a year off is needed to “evolve the game mechanics” of everyone’s favourite historical murder simulator series.

“This year, we also are stepping back and re-examining the Assassin’s Creed franchise. As a result, we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016. Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback,” a post from the publisher read at the time. “We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise.”
With a wealth of new games hitting the shelves both digital and physical from September onwards, it’s safe to say that Ubisoft will probably release this early next year in the run up to its next new Assassin’s Creed game that’s possibly going to take place in Egypt.
